The arts are studied from theoretical and historical perspectives, focusing on aesthetics and art history, in addition to the practical skills of painting. Coursework involving lectures as well as artistic practice and production prepares students for a variety of careers after graduation including becoming researchers, curators and teachers. In the field of aesthetics, students evaluate the artistic analysis, research and theory of areas such as music, dress and ornamentation, literature, theatre and modern art. The history of fine arts is studied by using the fundamental techniques of art history research to investigate Japanese and Western fine arts from ancient times to the present.
